2:45 pm - It's a marketing thing
|
A round of applause goes to whoever it was at Wrigley's that got Chris Brown in their ads.
As some of you might know, in the chorus of "Forever," it says "Double your pleasure, double your fun." When I first heard this a while ago, it made me think of Doublemint gum. That's been their thing for a long time. I mean, they started the Doublemint twins campaign in the '50s so I'd assume that's when it started. It makes sense.
After talking with my sister, I began to wonder how many of the youngens really know of this gum. Sure, you see it at the checkout counter, but it's not staying in their head when they leave. Or maybe, they only know of it from when they visit their grandparents and that's all they chew. Those are not flattering labels: "That other gum" or "old folks gum."
How do they pull in the young ones? They bring in a star, have him drop some guerilla-style in a catchy hit song, make him show of his cool dance moves in a commercial, and change the package so that it looks like another version of an already cool gum! (It looks like they are going to be repackaging all their old school gums to match the 5 sensation)
I can't wait to see what other changes this leads to. I feel some mergers coming on.

5:31 pm - Horizons be damned!
|
My dad gets back from Ethiopia in a few hours. So far no worries.
Places, outside the US, I must go before biting the big one, in no particular order:
Belgrade, Serbia (and also Sokobanja)
Odessa, Ukraine
Dubai, UAE ( to visit family, really)
Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Kamchatka
Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe (during the months you can swim on the edge of the cliff and look down the falls)
Praja a Mare, Italy (after learning some Italian of course)
Heidelberg, Germany (among other cities)
Kyzyl, Tuva (gotta learn some throat singing)
Nuku'alofa, Tonga
Sligo, Ireland (and many surrounding areas)
Cairns and Brisbane, Queensland
Kansai or Chubu.. or really anywhere, Japan
and many more places to be discovered later!

3:14 am - Or I could have just scanned the book...
|

11:24 pm - oooooh
|
Saw Dark Knight today and it gave me the warm fuzzies... down there. I jest, I jest. But seriously, a few very pleasant surprises, plenty of laughs and "wow"s. On the one hand, Mr. Ledger did an amazing job with the character, on the other I wish it wasn't his last. There were just so many times in the movie where you just get depressed. And that one quote just stung! The one that's like "either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain." Ow. I guess I'll just call it tragically awesome.
Who do I know with a motorcycle in the Richardson/Plano area? It is driving me crazy. Seriously.

2:09 am - Could life be a destination, just this once?
|
It's almost over! I don't know if that is good or bad. Who is actually leaving come summer? How much is actually going to change?
After hearing the sentence "I love having friends with connections" escape my mouth, I realized I've been networking all along! And here I thought I've been slacking in that department. Though, I am still not satisfied. Never satisfied.
And a word of wisdom for all my tripods out there, it's best not to try to get in my head. Really, you'll only get lost. I'm not one to be "figured out" and you can't get me to make a decision I don't already want to make. Now, go scratch your head and wonder if it is you I am talking about. I know at least one of you will ask. The answer is... well, you'll find out soon enough.
I'm finding that the reason most people have never seen me angry is that I can really only be mad at one person at a time. Well, I can only be pissed at one person at a time. It was usually always my dad hogging all the glory. Then I made a few... friends and they started using their turns. Then there is one friend in particular who just keeps on dipping that hand in the "I will shoot you" cookie jar. I think I'm pretty booked for the next month or two ($#%$^ing professor ruining my 4.0 by being ridiculously slow in the head). Is this a free pass? Maybe. Wanna try me?
23 days left.

Happy Easter!
Knowing my family runs on 2 different calendars makes me feel special :) Though, I don't have the dates memorized yet. They run on a 13-month year, but the 13th month is only a few days long. But really, there's only 3 days I really care about: New Year's, Christmas, and Easter.
The countdown has begun: 27 days left...

I don't know about you, but I still have my Lite-Brite. Best part, the Lite-Brite is in my attic, yet the colorful pegs are in my sister's closet. Go figure. Did anyone just play with those things? Put them all in a pile and scoop them up like you were Scrooge McDuck in his vault. I loved the sound the pegs would make as they punched through the paper. I can still hear it in my head. So satisfying. Then, you realize if you don't memorize it or create a coded diagram, that is the last time you will ever know what color was supposed to be there. Finally, you turned off the lights and gazed upon the glory of your sailboat all ablaze! Magnificent.
Though there is no satisfying pop, I have found this is still a great way to waste time (especially when you should be studying!). Behold!
I attempted a quick sunset scene so that I had an excuse to fill the screen with the pretty colors. It reminds me of a sneeze.

Stumble is a procrastinator's dream! Thank you, Josh.
And holy crap, Charlton Heston. Bad taste be damned, did anyone wish it was a bullet? I can't hate, he "let my people go."

2:47 pm - Back in Richardson
|
First off, Happy Bday to Mr. 1 1/2! Fangirl 4 life! Even if you have become a boozie.
As the subject says, I will now be spending more time out in Richardson. A LOT more time. As of right now, I'll be out there more than I will be in my own dorm. I got a second job and it is off of Arapaho. So, even though I'll be out there, I still may not be able to see everyone. Right now, I'm not exactly sure what to expect, but after this weekend, it should be clearer.
I feel I will be taking more naps, too.

9:18 pm - I do love to touch.

Have you all played around with the new Google maps feature? Street view mofo! It doesn't show the right address, but when you eventually scroll over to my house, you can see my car in the driveway. Karen and I spent most of last night looking at our friend's houses, downtown Dallas and satellite views of "достопримечательности" (yeah, learned that word Tuesday!) like the Eiffel Tower, Statue of Liberty, Niagara Falls, Leaning Tower of Pisa (which resembles a boob from that angle), and the Hollywood sign.
How awesome would it be if they let us demo Surface! I'm sure they wouldn't since most college students wouldn't need this, but it would def get attention. Pft, we're still trying to get the tablets in our demo. I think the best part of Surface will be if they become popular at restaurants. No more doodling on receipts trying to show who had what and no more arguments about how much to tip. Though, with the ability to order from the table, will people even feel as motivated to tip their waitresses? And what about if you're splitting an order of something? And if I just happen to have one at home with all the proper bar codes, can I use my camera on their tables and send it (safely) to emails? I'd have to admit, some atmosphere will be lost, but image you are on a really sucky date! You can completely ignore him, get free food and surf the web!
I kind of want to see this "Life After People" special on the History Channel. Will there be a big animal disco once the last person dies off? I know that's what I'd do. They're already naked, might as well dance! But wouldn't what they do depend on how we died off? Which will they pick?! If we blow everything up, it will change the environment and could lead to new types of animals. If we all get some cool sexy disease, would some animals try to enjoy a people snack and get it too? Would they then spread this sexiness until all the world is dead sexy?! *pun intended* Oh ze possibilities! I have my fingers crossed for reincarnation.

7:49 pm - Apples are... juicy?
|
I just finished watching all of Death Note. In like 4 or 5 days. That was ridiculous! This series like a soap opera with a better plot and better acting. I'm thinking about buying the 2 live action movies because 1) I think it has a different ending and 2) I love the guy that plays L.
So, if you had the ability to make all the bad people (murderers, the corrupt, your enemies, etc) disappear with a 90% chance of it never being traced back to you, would you use it?
The weirdest thing was that I would stay up all night watching episode after episode, finally go to sleep, and the next morning I would wake up on my back. I usually can never sleep (or stay asleep) when I'm lying on my back because I either have terrible nightmares or insanely odd dreams. Usually, someone dies or gets seriously wounded and I kick myself awake. I can't really tell you what I dreamed about these past few days, but I know they were just like my usual odd dreams. We'll see if the bad dreams return now that I've finished.
I think Light was based on someone born in early November.

11:47 pm - Oh moneys.
|
I almost forgot Regina Spektor is going to be in concert in a couple weeks. I still haven't decided if I'm going because I may be seeing Dane Cook in December and those tickets are kinda pricey. I should be saving up for tuition. :(
On top of that, I still don't know what I want to do for my birthday.. well, weekend after my birthday. I could do the ultra classy thing and go to the DMA, enjoy some wine, art and free coffee. Or I could roll out to Austin and spend all my moneys. Or I could just invite some friends to some location and allow them the rare opportunity to see me drunk! All I know is I haven't had an alcoholic beverage in a while so my tolerance will most likely be low. I think at this point even Pavel could out-drink me! hehehe
I have decided that I am giving this to myself as a birthday present. Plus, I could always pass it along to the little ones making up some story of it representing love and blah blah instead of just saying it was an impulse buy! I blame you, Melly!
"John-A, John-B, John-C, John-D, John-Eeeeee!" Man, I wish Sweeney Todd was out now. Mmmm Juanito.

First off, for those Radiohead fans or those that are riding the fence of fandom, they have now made their new album available for download on their website. The real news: you get to name your own price. Yup. I think I may take advantage.
On top of this, my day was filled with Bollywood and YouTube in my World Music class (I dare you to watch Bollywood Thriller),jokes about finding the weather cute and wanting to date it in Russian (reasons why you wouldn't use красивая), and figuring out stuff for this party. All around great day to make up for the hell that is coming on Monday (Russian History mid term). Адский ад pops into my head.
Today, I reach the 1 month mark. 1 month 'til drinky-drinkies!

3:36 pm - yay!
|
I got back my quiz that I made that Russian post for and it turns out I made a 93. But she grades really nicely, because I should have had a lower grade. I completely forgot to look over directions. BUT she said that since everyone didn't do as well as they should have, we could retest at the end of class. Though I was pretty satisfied with the 93, it wasn't a well-deserved 93, so I retook. Got a 100 fair and square! I didn't know you could shorthand dates. Like: Я родилась в 1986-ом году. At least that's what I put for one of my answers!
For some reason, the weather vocab isn't sticking. But no time to worry about that, I have marketing stuff to worry about and party stuff to figure out (haha Airon, UNT kicked UTD's gaming butt!)
